The Pakistani High Commission held a reception at the Conservative Party Conference which was attended by His Excellency Mr Wajid Shamsul Hasan, High Commissioner of Pakistan, Mr Asif Durrani, Deputy High Commissioner and a number of Shadow Cabinet members and senior politicians from the Conservative Party.

Lord Sheikh (Chairman of CMF) spoke at the event and praised the achievement of the Pakistani community and the Muslims in the UK. Arif Hussain (Member of CMF Executive Committee) was also in attendance.

Lord Sheikh (Chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum) and Mohammed Amin (Vice-Chairman) visited the mosque in Cheadle.

They were given a tour of the mosque and met the leaders and congregation at the mosque. In his speech Lord Sheikh praised everyone at the mosque in the work they undertake to promote good relations with the community in Cheadle and promoting a happy neighbourhood in the area.

Conservative Muslim Forum Northwest arranged a function to celebrate Eid on Saturday 4th October prior to the Conservative Party Conference. The dinner was held in Curry Mile and was very well attended.

Among the guests were Conservative councillors, supporters and candidates. The speakers were Mohammed Idrees (Chairman of CMF Northwest), Cllr Mohammad Bhatti (Member of CMF Executive), Alistair Burt (Assistant Chief Whip & Deputy Party Chairman), Sajjad Karim MEP, Lord Sheikh (Chairman of CMF) and Mohammed Amin (Vice Chairman of CMF). At the meeting there were also a number of people who had switched to the Conservative Party from other parties and this was very pleasing.

Lord Sheikh, Chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum, met Wan Saiful Wan Jan and his family for dinner at a hotel in Cockfosters before Wan’s return to Malaysia. Wan has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Conservative Muslim Forum and has rendered considerable support to the Conservative Muslim Forum particularly in regard to strategy and policy matters.

Lord Sheikh thanked Wan for what he has done for the Conservative Muslim Forum and wished him well in his future activities in Malaysia and globally.

Lord Sheikh, Chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum, and Mohammed Amin, Vice-Chairman of the CMF, visited the Muslim Heritage Centre in Manchester where they were met by all of the Trustees of the Centre. Mohammed Amin has already supported the establishment of the Centre.

Lord Sheikh stated that he was very impressed by what has been achieved by the Trustees and the community and agreed to render support to take the project further. Lord Sheikh praised the proposed objectives of the Centre and said that their aims and objectives are matters which are very close to his own heart.

Lord Sheikh, Chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum, and Mohammed Amin, Vice Chairman, attended a dinner organised by Ben Jeffreys, the Conservative Party’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Cheadle with leaders of the Muslim community in Cheadle.

Lord Sheikh made the point that the Conservative Party is an inclusive Party and that the Party’s principles are akin to the beliefs of the Muslim community. Lord Sheikh also made the comment to the Muslims that Ben Jeffreys was very keen to build stronger links between the Conservative Party and the Muslim community in Cheadle.

Lord Sheikh, Chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum, attended a dinner organised by Mr Chawla of ROKO Cancer. Lord Sheikh was presented with an award and in his speech said that he was accepting this with a great deal of humility. In his speech Lord Sheikh also referred to the fact that one of his guiding principles is to serve the community and in fact service to the community is part of the heritage of people from the subcontinent of India.

Lord Sheikh also praised the work of Mr Chawla who is a selfless and very dedicated person who spends his entire time promoting the work of the charity. Lord Sheikh also stated that he will continue to support Mr Chawla and ROKO Cancer in every possible way.

Lord Sheikh, Chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum, attended a dinner organised by Bucks Punjabi Society International. He is a patron of the Society which works for community cohesion and better relationships between different racial and religious groups.

At the dinner Lord Sheikh in his speech referred to the strong work ethics and hard work of the Punjabis and their success in the UK. He said that Punjabi was the second most common language spoken in the UK and this language is the mother tongue of Sikhs, Muslims, Hindus and Christians in India.

The Society was supporting the charity Crimestoppers and Lord Sheikh praised the work undertaken by this organisation. Lord Sheikh also praised the charitable work undertaken by Mr Paul Riat who is the President of Bucks Punjabi Society International.

Lord Sheikh, Chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum, and Mohammed Amin, Vice-Chairman, attended a luncheon organised by His Excellency The Malaysian High Commissioner in order to celebrate the occasion of Malaysia National Day. Lord Sheikh said to His Excellency that every time he has attended a function organised by him, he has been received with warmth and excellent hospitality including being served with delicious food.

Lord Sheikh, Chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum, attended evening prayers and Iftari organised by the Kosova Muslim community at their mosque in Maida Vale. The event was hosted by Sheikh Zymer Salihi (President and Imam of the Kosovo Islamic Centre UK) and attended by His Excellency Muhamet Hamiti, Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo.

Lord Sheikh also spoke at the event and praised the Kosovans on their achievement in setting up a beautiful mosque and centre. He made the point that Britain has accepted the independence of Kosovo and admired the resourcefulness of people from Kosovo who have worked very hard and made a life for themselves in the UK.

He also said that he was touched by the warmth and kind hospitality shown to him by the entire congregation.
