Preliminary meeting of Armed Forces Muslim Forum

As part of their outreach activities, on 14 May 2014 the Armed Forces hosted a meeting at the offices of the Ministry of Defence on Whitehall.

The meeting was organised by Imam Asim Hafiz, Islamic Religious Advisor to the Chief of the Defence Staff and Service Chiefs, and the Master of Ceremonies was Captain Naveed Muhammad. Both of them are pictured on the page Muslims in the armed forces. The forces were represented by the most senior member of HM Armed Forces, General Sir Nicholas Houghton GCB CBE ADC Gen who is Chief of the Defence Staff. The Government was represented by Lord Astor of Hever DL who is Parliamentary Under Secretary of State and the Lords Spokesman on Defence.

Many leading British Muslims attended. The Conservative Muslim Forum was represented by Deputy Chairman Mohammed Amin. Many ideas were shared regarding how the links between Britain’s Muslims and the Armed Forces can be strengthened. Mr Amin mentioned how the CMF is encouraging Britons to consider the Armed Forces as a career with a recruitment page on our website.
